Fifth Grade 2016-2017
~ Scholastic Orders will be sent home in next week's Friday Folders (November 14th). They will be due by Monday, November 24th.
~Parent Volunteers Needed!...Position Filled, thank you!
I am
in need of a parent volunteer to come in and stuff Friday Folders. There is
available time and space in our shared space after lunch until the end of the
day (open from 12:35-3:45pm). It would take approximately 20 minutes (depending
on how much is going home that week) to put everything together. If you would
be interested in coming in to help out, please let me know. Thanks so much for
all that you do!
~ Check Out Our Photo Gallery! The Solar System Project pictures are up!
~ Please Don't Forget, there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, September 29th. Teachers will be in for Professional Development, but students have no school. Have a great long weekend!
Fifth Grade News 2013-2014
~ Have a Great Spring Break!...Please remember that there is a half day of school on Friday, April 18th!
~ January PBS postponed to Friday Feb. 7th
The January PBS event (it was originally planned as sledding, now will be swimming) has been rescheduled for next Friday, February 7th. Remind your child to bring their swimsuit and towel next Friday! We have a list of students who believed that they passed the aquatic center deep end test, however some of them were not on the list given to us to check. If you know your child has passed the test, please let me know as soon as possible so I can verify. Thank you and stay warm!
~ MSU Field Trip Re-scheduled for 2/21/14
The field trip has been rescheduled for Friday, February 21st. We will still be going to the museum first, then to the planetarium. MSU classes will be in session, so parking will NOT be free. There will be a letter going home this Friday (1/17/14) with more details. Chaperones will need to reconfirm if they can attend, and we may need to double check on carpooling options. If you would like to chaperone or can still chaperone, please contact me via email, phone, or in person.
~ Field Trip to MSU Coming Soon!
Our field trip to the MSU museum and the Planetarium is coming on Friday, December 20th. It will be an all-day event, so please make sure your child arrives on time to school. We will have to do our PBS celebration (cookie decorating) first thing in the morning (9-9:30am), and we will pack up and head to the buses around 9:45am. Our expected return time is somewhere around 3:15pm (weather permitting).
There are still a large number of students who have not turned in either their permission slips, their field trip money, or volunteer/chaperone money. It is an ABSOLUTE MUST to turn in the permission slip before Friday. Students will not be allowed to go if they do not turn in those slips by the end of the day on Thursday, December 19th.
We still do not know which place we will be going first (museum or planetarium). We should be able to find out the morning of, when we meet the bus drivers. We will notify you as soon as we know.
Lastly, I will need the names of all interested chaperones if they are a grandparent, aunt, uncle, and so on. If you can get me that information as soon as possible I would greatly appreciate it!
We are all extremely excited to go, and it will be a great way to kick off the holiday break!

~ Holiday Classroom Party Thursday 12-19-13
Our combined (Mrs. Marchand's and Mrs. Clubb's class) Holiday celebration will be on Thursday, December 19th, from 2:45-3:45pm. We will be eating a special treat (pizza), and will watch a movie (Charlie Brown Christmas). At the very end of the day we will make sure we pack up everything we will need for the break. We will clean out lockers, desks, and baskets. We will need to make sure we ALL take our Friday Folders home, and will make sure everything is put back where we found it so it's ready when we come back! If you are interested in coming in you are more than welcome to, but it will be a relatively low-key celebration since we have the field trip the next day. You will need to sign in at the office when you come in, but you will be able to sign your student out early if you wish, as long as you fill out the sign out sheet in the classroom.
~ STEM Lessons Next Week... (Nov. 25-26)
Next week the entire 5th grade will be on a two day STEM class rotation. STEM - simulations, technology, engineering, and math. This means we will use those concepts when learning about a specific topic. Every 5th grade teacher has come up with a topic related to Thanksgiving and the settlers. Each student will stay with their class, and rotate to see every teacher, over the course of the two school days next week. That means our class will start together in our homeroom, learn the lesson I have planned, then after approximately an hour they will rotate to the next fifth grade room over (Mrs. Marchand). They will do a different activity there. By the end of Tuesday they will have gone to 8 different lessons with the 8 different 5th grade teachers. It's similar to Literacy day last year, but the kids stay within their same group of peers. It's bound to be very exciting!
~ No School Dates...
Please remember there is no school next Friday, November 1st, as well as the following Friday, November 8th, due to Teacher Professional Development and Conferences.
~ Halloween Party Next Week...
Our Halloween party is fast approaching! We will be have a CUE parade right after special (we will change as soon as we get back from Pre-Band). It is scheduled to begin at 2:45pm. Then we will take our parade to the cafetorium for snacks, a movie, and some costume sharing with friends! This will take us from around 3:00pm to 3:30pm. If you would like to help bring in snacks or would like to come help, please check the newsletter to sign up for different materials needed, or let me know if you would like to come volunteer your help! (Note: electronic newsletter is on the website under the newsletters tab as well). Here is what is still needed for the party:
1 more package of juice boxes
4 dozen cookies/treats
3 large pre-popped popcorn bags
We appreciate your help! If you are interested in coming to the parade and party, please remember we need to have a filed background check from you. Please let me know if you are coming ahead of time so that I can double check to make sure we have one on file.
